Competitive Programs!
Competitive tryout dates are July 22 - 24 & August 5 – 7, 2025.
1. Developmental Program -
What is it?
Calico’s Developmental Program includes 4 levels of progression with compulsory routines on each event. Athletes will be placed in a Dev level based on their age(6 years and under) and gymnastics experience. Our Developmental starts at our Dev 1 with basics and shaping all the way to Dev 4 where athletes perform their gymnastics skills and apply their understanding of gymnastics techniques to the best of their ability, drills for advanced skills will start at this level. Physical strength is one of the main parts of gymnastics safety as well to successfully advance as a gymnast. Conditioning will be max 30 mins a training to help the gymnasts improve in their skills.
The Developmental Program is to prepare our gymnasts for our Competitive Xcel program once they reach an age or skill level. This program is for gymnasts to compete against themselves, not their teammates or other clubs.
Listed below is our Developmental Program broken down into each level:
Developmental 1:
Focus is on basic skills, shaping and learning how to apply corrections. As well they are introduced to stretching, conditioning, and the 3 FFF’s (fun, fitness, and fundamentals).
Developmental 2:
Focus is on progressions for skills, while learning to be tight to the best of their ability as well as right techniques.
Developmental 3:
Focus is on moving up skill difficulty, and a tight body is encouraged as well correct technique.
Developmental 4:
Focus is on advancing their skills and performing advanced skills in routines as well moving up towards our Xcel or CCP levels
Throughout the year our Developmental Program will have 2 Dev Testings for a chance to move up Dev levels. Each Dev level is similar to our JO / Xcel compulsory routines with some adjustments.
2. Xcel Program –
What is it?
Calico’s Xcel Program includes 5 levels–Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. The goal of the Xcel program is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding experience. The program allows a wide choice in skills to meet requirements. This is very similar to JO6+
Levels Bronze and Silver are considered Pre-competitive within Saskatchewan. Athletes participating in these levels will attend 3 ‘fun meets’ per year. Scores will be flashed and awards will be given out for each event and all around.
Levels Gold + will be part of the Saskatchewan Provincial Program. Athletes participating in these levels will attend a minimum of three in provincial competitions and will be eligible for qualifying to Provincial Championships. Scores will be flashed and awards will be given out for each event and all around.
3. CCP Program –
What is it?
Our main program is our Xcel levels however once a gymnast has reached Platinum there is the option to switch over to the JO 6 level IF the coach sees this program is a better fit for the athlete. The parents, coach and athlete will have a discussion about the benefits of each program and decide which one is more beneficial to the athlete. Levels 6 + will be part of the Saskatchewan Provincial Program. Athletes participating in these levels will attend a minimum of three provincial competitions and will be eligible for qualifying to Provincial Championships. Scores will be flashed and awards will be given out for each event and all around.
